Bed bug inspection in Glasgow

An inspection answers two questions before you spend money on treatment: is it really bed bugs, and how far has it gone? In a Glasgow flat the second question matters as much as the first, because the answer decides whether one bedroom, the whole flat or part of the close needs doing.

When to book one

  • You are waking with bites but have not found a bug or any spots.
  • You found one bug and want to know if there are more, and where.
  • A neighbour in the close has had them and you want to know if they have reached you.
  • You are a landlord between tenants, or taking on a flat, and want it checked.
  • You have had a treatment and want to know it worked before you put the bed back together.

If you have already found live bugs and spots in several places, you can skip straight to treatment: the technician will inspect at the start of the first visit anyway.

What gets checked

A proper inspection goes well beyond the mattress. This is the order a careful technician works in.

  1. The bed

Mattress seams, piping and labels, the corners and underside of the divan, slats, the headboard and where it bolts to the frame.

  2. Round the bed

Bedside drawers turned out, skirting behind the bed, the edge of the carpet, plug sockets and picture frames on the wall nearby.

  3. Soft furniture

Sofa seams and under the cushions, armchairs, curtains and anything upholstered in the rooms where people sleep or nap.

  4. The rest of the flat

Every bedroom, not just the one with bites, plus the living room. Bed bugs follow people, so anywhere someone sleeps gets checked.

  5. The building

Where the pipes and cables come through, the door frame on to the close, and, if they agree, the flats across the landing, above and below.

What you should come away with

At the end you should know, in plain words, whether it is bed bugs, which rooms are involved, roughly how long it has been going on, and whether the flats around you need looking at. You should also get a recommendation, spray or heat, with a fixed price and the number of visits.

If nothing is found, a good technician tells you so and suggests what else could be causing the bites, from fleas off a pet to carpet beetle larvae or a skin reaction. The NHS advice is to see a pharmacist for bites that itch badly, and a GP if a bite gets hot, swollen or infected.

Inspections are also used after treatment. Two to four weeks after the last visit, a check of the bed and the rooms around it confirms the job is done. Some people put a simple monitor or interceptor under each bed leg in the meantime, which gives an early warning if anything survived.

Inspection questions

  1. How much does a bed bug inspection cost in Glasgow?

Typically £60 to £120 for a flat or house as a separate visit, as of October 2026. Many firms take the fee off the treatment price if you go ahead with them.
  2. How long does it take?

Thirty minutes to an hour for a one or two-bed flat. Longer for a large house, an HMO with several bedrooms, or when neighbouring flats are checked as well.
  3. I have bites but have found nothing. Is an inspection worth it?

Yes. Plenty of things bite or irritate, and bites alone do not prove bed bugs. An inspection either finds the evidence or rules it out, which stops you paying for a treatment you do not need.
  4. What should I do before the inspection?

Nothing much. Do not strip and wash the bed or spray anything the day before, because that hides the evidence. Leave the bed as it is and tell the technician where the bites happen.
  5. Can I get a written report?

Ask for one. Landlords, letting agents, factors and hotels usually want a short written note of what was found and where, especially if more than one flat is involved.
